Our Homeland will not become better while we, its citizens, wait for someone else to do the hard work for us. Of course, this does not mean we do not need friends, partners, donors, institutions, our diaspora or international support. We do. But primarily for social and economic development, so we can build real opportunities to stay or return.
Our Homeland is more than the place where we live. It is the responsibility we have to one another. It asks us: will we leave young people a country to leave, or a Homeland worth trying in?
We know that young people are leaving in large numbers. We know that many leave not because they do not love their Homeland, but because they do not see enough opportunities, Trust, stability and fair rules here. We also know we cannot tell young people to stay if we cannot show them where they can learn, work, earn, progress and live with dignity.
That is why our job is not just to tell people to stay.
Our job is to build reasons to stay.
We cannot promise to stop people leaving. We cannot change the education system, every employer and every institution on our own, or right every wrong. But we can do what is within our power.
- We can build young people's Skills.
- We can open pathways to better, better-paid Jobs.
- We can support those who try.
- We can connect people and local communities.
- We can create evidence that a different way is possible.
- We can improve parts of the System, one by one.
We believe a Homeland is not built only through major reforms from above. It is also built when a young person leads a team for the first time. When they launch a project in their community. When they learn to plan a budget. When they start a small business. When they get a mentor. When they demonstrate a Skill an employer values. When a company decides to invest in new products. When it is ready to pay young people with new Skills more. When an institution adopts a better solution because it sees evidence, not just a proposal.
That is why Mozaik Foundation does not run isolated projects.
We build a System.
Humanitarian aid matters. It saves people when times are hardest and shows that strong solidarity still exists in this country. But alongside support that meets urgent needs, we also need solutions that prevent the same crises from recurring. That is why Mozaik Foundation wants to turn goodwill into lasting change: into Skills, Jobs, better local communities and a System that gives people more reasons to stay, try and succeed.
Our System rests on these three pillars
Skills
because good opportunities require knowledge and modern Skills.
Jobs
because staying requires quality, well-paid Jobs.
Trust
because a secure and prosperous future requires Trust.
We are tired of narratives that constantly divide us. Of being set against one another by birthplace, entity, municipality, nationality, religion, politics, language and who is 'ours' and who is 'theirs'.
Mozaik Foundation chooses a different path.
We look for common interests. We look for people who want to work. We look for young people who want to try. We look for municipalities that want to invest. We look for companies that want to create new products and quality, well-paid Jobs. We look for institutions ready to adopt better solutions. We look for donors who want not only to help one young person today, but to create the conditions for thousands of young people tomorrow to have a real chance to stay in their local community and build their future there.
We do not ask everyone to think alike. But we insist that we all recognise that the future of our children and young people is bigger and more important than our divisions.
We love Bosnia and Herzegovina in all its parts. We love our people wherever they live. We love our neighbours too. We are not building a Homeland against anyone. We are building it for those who live here, for those who have left and want to stay connected, for those who may want to return one day, and for those who want our Homeland to be more liveable, fairer and more capable.
Mozaik Foundation exists because of this determination.
- We exist because we believe the future is not something to wait for. It is something to build.
- We exist because young people need more than inspiration. They need opportunities.
- We exist because companies need more than criticism. They need support to develop new products, become more competitive and create better-paid Jobs.
- We exist because institutions need more than pressure. They need evidence, models and solutions they can adopt.
- We exist because local communities need more than outside help. They need their own strength, funding, responsibility and pride.
- We exist because donors need more than the feeling of having done a good deed. They need the opportunity to invest in change that multiplies.
Our job is to turn goodwill into a System. To turn young people's energy into Skills. To connect Skills with Jobs. To connect Jobs with dignity. To turn evidence into better decisions. To build Trust through local successes.
We do not have a magic wand.
But we have a direction.
We believe a Homeland is built where people live: in municipalities and cities, schools, companies, associations, families and communities. Through small decisions repeated long enough to become a new culture.
- That is why we build local communities that do not wait for someone else to resolve their future.
- That is why we build Skills that can be demonstrated.
- That is why we build Jobs that can keep young people here.
- That is why we build Trust that is earned, not demanded.
This is our response to young people leaving.
This is our response to division.
This is our response to exhaustion.
This is our answer to what we can do ourselves.
We can start where we are. We can bring together young people who want to build. We can prove that communities have strength. We can create more reasons to stay than exist today. We can help make Bosnia and Herzegovina not a Homeland people want to leave, but a Homeland worth working for.
We want our Homeland to become more than an emotion: a real life option for young people.
Not because it is easy.
But because it is ours.
And because no one else will or can do it for us.
